Why, Who, How

On October 29, 2012, one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit US soil arrived as "Superstorm Sandy," causing widespread destruction in the New Jersey and New York areas.  Even though three and a half years have passed since the storm, thousands of people continue to be affected.  In Ocean County NJ, more than 10,000 homes are still waiting to be repaired or rebuilt.  Most of the people still suffering the consequences of the storm struggled with health, finances, and other challenges before Sandy came.

For the fourth year in a row, Old Union Presbyterian Church of Mars PA is sending a work team from June 26 to July 2 to assist in the ongoing rebuilding and recovery work.  This year's team includes 17 people from 5 churches.  Generous donations and grants from Beaver-Butler Presbytery and the Synod of the Trinity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) have kept the cost per participant at an affordable level.

The trip has been organized in cooperation with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, which coordinates long-term response to disasters across the nation.  For the second year in a row, the Morning Star Presbyterian Church of Bayville NJ will host the work team.

During the trip, we will post updates on the work we do, our life together, the people with whom we work, and how we find God in the midst of it all.  We greatly appreciate your prayers for safety and effectiveness!
